He got into a boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by waves; but he was asleep. They came and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” He said to them, “Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm. The men were amazed and said, “What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey?”
Here the apostles are in an actual storm, and for one reason they followed Jesus into the boat. It is the same in our lives when we make our choice to follow Jesus we end up in "storms" where we feel helpless, and we are like the apostles calling out to Jesus asking him where he is, why he isn't helping. But in reality it is enough for Jesus to be with us because he gives us peace during difficult times. God tells us throughout the Bible that he is with us and to not be afraid. He also tells us that he will never give us more than we can take. So through these "storms" God allows our faith to be tested so that we can become stronger in faith, and closer to him. If we want to be followers of Jesus we need to have a lot of faith in him, yes it can be very difficult, but we need faith because without it we are lost. So, if we keep our eyes on Jesus instead of the "storm" we will be able to get through it.
Today I have two songs to go along with this post because I couldn't choose between the two.
So, here is "Just Be Held" by Casting Crowns:
Thank You Lord for being with us through all of lives. Give us the strength to keep our eyes on you.
God Bless,
Sarah
